Pickleball

Basic Info

  • MSSC is looking to add Pickleball in 2026! We're running two intro events in July, and may run leagues in the late Summer/early Fall if there's enough interest
  • Some information appears on this page. More is found in our Frequently Asked Questions and the rulebook linked in the grey menu bar toward the top of the page. General club policies can be found at the bottom of this page in the Info & Help section

Events

We will have two FREE “Intro to Pickleball” events in July: Tuesday, the 21st, and Sunday, the 26th. Click the blue “More Info” button for times and additional details in the event postings at the bottom of the page. We anticipate each lasting about an hour as far as structured activity. Attendees are welcome to stay and participate in open play afterwards. We'll have paddles on site, but players are welcome to bring their own as well. We may run more of these events if there's enough demand.

Format

  • Leagues will be “all gender” doubles as we get this sport off the ground. “All gender” means you don't need any specific gender mix on the court
  • There is a roster minimum of three players per team to help avoid forfeits due to illness, injury, travel, etc. All three players don't need to show up each week, but must be available to play on whichever day(s) you register
  • Players supply their own paddles. Balls will be available from MSSC. A ball brought by either team may also be used as long as both teams agree
  • Matches consist of three sets played to 11 points (must win by two)
  • Matches are self-officiated and teams will record their own scores
  • There will be a rulebook available in the menu bar above toward the end of July. We will largely follow USA Pickleball rules

Registration and League Capacity

All leagues have a capacity. Registration deadline: Generally ten days prior to the start date (if not already sold out).

Skill Level and Divisions

  • Teams and free agents self-select their skill level during registration. We'll ask for official ratings (DUPR/UTR) for those that have them. Teams without such a rating will be asked to rate their skill on a scale of 1-10 to the best of their ability (similar to our other leagues)
  • There will be an adjustment period for the first few seasons as we get leagues off the ground and grow them. We ask that players be patient with any large skill disparities between teams, as those should eventually level out

Individual Registration Details

  • Please read our Free Agents page for tips and expectations when registering as an Individual
  • Individuals are welcome to sign up and we'll pair you with a couple other people. No payment is required at sign up; we will contact you if/when we have a team assignment for you

Dates and Locations

  • Late summer/fall 2026 outdoor leagues will be offered at Tenney Park (east side) and Rennebohm Park (west side). Both locations have lights
  • We're exploring facilities for indoor leagues and will post details if we're able to make leagues happen
  • Locations for any given league are not set in stone. They're subject to change at any time based on the whims of Madison Parks or any indoor facilities we use. We often have leagues that end up changing facilities for one reason or another, and players should be prepared to play wherever the league is located

Scheduling

  • Since it's asked all the time: Schedules are posted anywhere from 4-6 business days before a given league begins. If you signed up for Tuesday nights, you play on Tuesdays nights, and should be available for any time slot
  • We don't play on major Federal holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, MLK Day, etc. Indoor leagues don't play the day before Thanksgiving or on Thanksgiving. They also don't play for two weeks around the Christmas and New Year's Holidays. See our scheduling page for full details
